• Project Overview

It was an honour to design and produce this highly prestigious commemorative book which celebrates both the arrival of the Windrush generation and the 40th anniversary of the formation of the WBSC.

The 48 page, PUR-bound volume was developed and printed within a very short timescale in order to secure Heritage Lottery funding. As well as a presenting an in-depth social history, the book incorporates a large number of archival photographs, some of which required digital enhancement in order to restore the quality of the original image and achieve the best possible impact on the printed page.

Our brief was to create a visually engaging, lasting heritage resource, documenting the stories, contributions and experiences of African Caribbean women connected to Walsall and the wider Black Country. We drew upon traditional Caribbean themes and bright colours to reflect the unique strength and vitality of the culture at the heart of the publication. Careful page planning was essential to convey the words and pictures in a manner that is both informative and visually appealing.
